Drexel Hosts the CAA Championships at Vidas Field
PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's soccer team opens the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Thursday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Dragons will face James Madison at noon.
Drexel enters the postseason with a 6-3-1 overall record. Michael Marchiano, Drexel's first-year Head Coach, led the Dragons to a 2-1-1 record in the North Division. Drexel earned a playoff spot by beating Delaware in its final regular-season game. The Dragons have now won four straight games entering the CAA Championships and have outscored their opponents, 13-4, during that stretch. Drexel is hoping to capitalize on playing the tournament at Vidas Field. The Dragons are a perfect 4-0 on their home field in 2021 and have given up just one goal in West Philadelphia.
Laolu Daranijo and Chris Donovan have proven to be one of the top scoring duos around. Daranijo leads the CAA with 10 goals and 21 points, while Donovan leads the CAA with six assists and trails only Daranijo in total points in the league. Drexel has the top scoring offense in the lead. The Dragons will face the top scoring defense in JMU. The Dukes have given up just one goal in six games.
The winner of the Drexel-James Madison match will face either Hofstra or UNCW. The Pride (4-2-2, 2-0-2 CAA) is the top seed in the North Division. UNCW finished second in the South Division with a 2-1-1 mark in league play. The Seahawks are 5-2-2 overall. That game will start at 4 p.m. at Vidas Field
