PHILADELPHIA, Pa – The Drexel women's varsity eight team marked their second ever gold medal performance at the 82nd annual Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River on Saturday. The Dragons took home several pieces of hardware including two gold and three silver medals.
Drexel headlined the day with two first place finishes in the varsity and second varsity eight races. The only other time that a Drexel varsity eight boat has captured gold at the Dad Vail was in the 2017 season.
The varsity eight squad in Alleva XVII raced to victory past Princeton (6:24.37), crossing the finish line at 6:22.38. The second varsity eight boat in Cara Fry also pulled past Temple and never looked back, marking another first-place finish for the Dragons, clocking in at 6:52.14 to the Owls 6:58.68.
The Dragons JV four and third varsity eight shells also put-up strong efforts in the water, taking home silver behind Lafayette and Temple respectively.
Drexel's performance at the Dad Vail puts them in a good position heading into a big week of prep leading up to the CAA Championships on Sunday, May 16. This will be the Dragons first road race of the year as they head to Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J.
