Men's Tennis Completes First Day of Saint Joseph's University Fall Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's tennis team traveled across Philadelphia to participate in the Saint Joseph's University Fall Invitational. The three-day tournament-style invitational enters its 12th year of operation.
The Dragons were successful in the first round of play. Alex De Sousa, ranked fourth in the top-flight singles bracket, took care of his opponent from NJIT in two sets, 6-2, 6-3. The Dragons also had representation in the third-flight singles bracket. Xandy Hammitt competed against Juan Bejarano of NJIT and defeated him, 6-2, 6-4.
In flight number four, Djordje Janackovic earned a bye in the first round and will compete in the second round on Saturday.
In the doubles brackets, the Dragons were victorious in all of the matches that they appeared in. De Sousa and Alan Jesudason competed in the top-flight bracket and defeated their opponents, 6-2. Joining the duo in the first-seeded frame were Hammitt and Sanil Jagtiani. The two Dragons battled and emerged victorious, 6-3. Wrapping up play in the doubles bracket was the pair of Janackovic and Juan Manuel Sanchez in the second flight. The duo defeated their opponents from Mary Washington, 6-2.
The Dragons had a few matches that were unfinished due to darkness. Those matches will finish when day two of the fall invitational begins on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The second round of play and the consolation portion of the invitational will follow.
