SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Annalena O'Reilly converted a penalty kick late in the second half as the Drexel women's soccer team downed Seton Hall 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The win runs the Dragons unbeaten streak to four games, their longest streak since five in a row without a loss in 2018. It is also Drexel's first win against a Big East school since September 19, 2019, also a 1-0 victory against SHU. Coincidentally, O'Reilly also scored the lone goal in that contest as well.
The offense opened up for the Dragons in the second half as they registered six shots in the frame. In the 79th minute, DU played the ball down the left side. After the initial cross was sent away from goal, O'Reilly collected the ball at the top left corner of the box before being taken down from behind, resulting in a penalty kick. She calmly stepped up and deposited the ball lower left for a 1-0 Drexel lead. The Dragons then held off the Pirates in the final 11 minutes to seal their third victory in the last four games.
To start the match, both teams struggled to find scoring chances as the two squads combined for five total shots with only three going on target.
Defensively, Miyuki Schoyen stopped four shots for her second consecutive clean sheet.
Drexel returns to action on Sunday, September 12 when it hosts UMass Lowell. Opening tap from Vidas Field is slated for 2:00 p.m.
