PHILADELPHIA - Drexel will welcome William & Mary to the Daskalakis Athletic Center for a Colonial Athletic Association game on Saturday. It's Homecoming Weekend at Drexel and many former student-athletes are expected back on campus to see the Dragons look to improve on their 3-2 league mark when they tip-off against the Tribe. Saturday's game is brought to you by Barnes & Noble and the 2021-22 Drexel men's basketball season is presented by IBEW 98.
THE SERIES
Drexel holds a 26-19 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 1983-84 season. The two teams have alternated wins in the last six games. Last year, they met three times with Drexel winning the first and the last game. The first two meetings were in Philadelphia. The Dragons won the rubber match in Williamsburg, 79-64. James Butler and Camren Wynter combined for 40 points in the win.
ABOUT DREXEL
Drexel has won three of its first five CAA games and has an 8-7 overall record. On Thursday, the Dragons shot 60 percent from deep on their way to a convincing 77-49 win against Elon at the DAC. Camren Wynter and Amari Williams each scored 17. For Williams, the 17 points were a career high. Wynter is fourth in the CAA with 14.7 points per game and is second in the league in assists. James Butler averages 13.4 points and 9.7 rebounds, but has missed the last four games. Melik Martin had a solid game against Elon with 15 points and six rebounds. Martin leads the CAA in 3-point percentage. Drexel has shot 45 percent from behind the arc in its five CAA games, the best percentage in the league.
ABOUT THE TRIBE
William & Mary is 2-3 in CAA play and 3-15 overall. The Tribe opened the CAA season with wins against Hofstra and Northeastern, but have lost three-straight league games. The Tribe is one of the younger teams in the CAA and get almost 80 percent of its scoring from freshmen and sophomores. Connor Kochera leads the Tribe with 27 3-pointers and 11.3 points per game. Ben Wight chips in with 11.2 and a team-best 5.7 rebounds. The Tribe is still looking for its first road win.
