Opening Tip
The Dragons close their four-game homestand taking on rival Delaware on Sunday, January 23 as part of Drexel Homecoming. Tipoff from the Daskalakis Athletic Center is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
About Drexel
In a game that befit the top two teams in the Colonial Athletic Association, Drexel defeated the Towson Tigers 58-54 on Tuesday night to remain undefeated in CAA play and extend its winning streak to 10 games.
With the win against Towson, Drexel extended its winning streak to 10 games. With Louisville falling to N.C. State on Thursday, it is the second longest streak in Division I, trailing only South Dakota (13) heading into the weekend with the Coyotes hosting St. Thomas on Saturday. It is the fifth time in program history the Dragons have won 10 or more consecutive games as a D1 school. Most recently, Drexel won 13 straight from January 5 through February 23, 2020.
Towson was also the Dragons' first this season against a team inside the top-100 of the NCAA NET ratings. Towson checks in at No. 78 (through games on 1/20). The Dragons will have a chance to take on some higher quality competition in the next two games as Delaware (1/23) slots at 109 and Elon (1/28) is 132nd.
DU is 11-0 this season in games where it leads at halftime. As impressive as that would be on its own, the Dragons streak in games where they lead at the break extends back more than two years. Drexel has not lost a game it led at halftime since a 53-49 setback at Penn on December 20, 2019, a string of 34 consecutive games.
Scouting Delaware
Delaware enters play on a four-game winning streak and is 10-4 overall following a 64-57 win against James Madison on Tuesday. After a stretch of three losses in a row at the beginning of December and several postponements to end 2021, the Blue Hens have not lost in 2022.
Leading the offense for Delaware is Jasmine Dickey who tops the CAA and is second in Division I at 24.8 points per game. A volume shooter, Dickey leads the nation in field goal attempts per game at 22.9 and is third in total field goal attempts with 298. She gets to the line a lot with 102 tries at the charity stripe. Dickey also makes her attempts, hitting 80.8 percent. Not to be outdone is Ty Battle who averages a double-double with 13.3 points and a conference best 10.4 rebounds per game. Tyi Skinner is another scoring option at 13.8 a game. She also tops UD in assists with 49.
One thing the Blue Hens do exceptionally well is collect their own misses, ranking eighth in the country with 16.4 offensive rebounds per game. On the down side, they will put their opponents on the line as teams are averaging 16.1 free throws per game.
Natasha Adair is in her fifth season at Delaware with a record of 81-54 at UD and 154-139 in 10 seasons overall as a collegiate head coach. She has guided her Blue Hens teams to the WNIT twice in 2018 and 2021 and has had only two season below .500 as a head coach.
All-Time Series
Sunday is the 87th all-time meeting between Delaware and Drexel at the Division I level, with the Blue Hens holding a 48-38 series lead. The 86 games are the most for either school against any opponent. The Dragons had won 11 in a row against UD before the Blue Hens took both regular season games last season. Drexel got the final say, however, coming from behind to win the CAA title game last season, 63-52, claiming the conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Washington led DU with 30 points in the contest.
Promotions
The game is a part of Homecoming Weekend, presented by Barnes & Noble at Drexel University.
