Dragons Battle Back To Extend Winning Streak To 12

ELON, N.C. – The Drexel University women's basketball team overcame a 10-point second quarter deficit as the Dragons pushed their winning streak to a dozen games with a 72-60 victory against the Elon Phoenix on Friday night.

Drexel concludes its southern swing with a game at William & Mary on Sunday, January 30. Tip-off from Kaplan Arena is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

- Tessa Brugler posted a personal best in a Drexel uniform with 20 points, while also notching her ninth double-double of the season with 13 rebounds.
- Hannah Nihill scored 21, the fifth time in six games she posted 10 or more. 19 of her points came in the second half.
- Keishana Washington was also in double figures with 11. She has tallied 10 or more in all 17 games this season.
- 10 points in the second quarter and the eight point halftime difference are the most the Dragons have rallied from this season.
- 28 points in the third quarter is the most in any single period for DU this season.
- Drexel shot 10-for-14 from the field in the third quarter.
- DU went 18-for-23 from the free throw line in the game and committed just three turnovers in the final 20 minutes.
- Coming out of halftime, the Dragons erased the deficit in a matter of three minutes, outscoring Elon 14-4 by the 6:28 mark forcing a Phoenix timeout. Brugler was dominant during the sequence, scoring seven points, hitting all three of her shots, while pulling in two rebounds.
- DU continued to score the ball at a tremendous rate, coming up with 28 points in the third, its highest scoring frame of the year. Eight of the points came from Nihill, part of an effort that saw the Dragons shoot 10-for-14 from the floor and 8-of-9 at the free throw line.
- After an uncharacteristically slow start for Drexel that saw the Phoenix go up 11-4, hitting its first three treys, the Dragons started to find their rhythm, scoring the next seven on four free throws from Brugler and a three-pointer from Maura Hendrixson, knotting the score just past the media timeout.
- Elon continued to shoot well, connecting on five shots from distance in the first quarter as Drexel trailed 23-17 after 10 minutes.
- The second period saw a more even scoring flow as five different players scored for DU, who was on the short end of a 35-27 score at intermission.
