Women's Rowing Solid Across The Board in Season Opening Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's rowing team opened the season on Sunday with solid races across the board at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
The V8+ saw Drexel place fifth out of 31 boats as Natalie Cleri (coxswain), Julianna Rogers (stroke), Kayla Driscoll, Hayley McKeever, Kirby Droogan, Giavanna Hunt, Rachel Civan, Taylor Powell, and Rita Keefer (bow) propelled Alleva XVII across the finish line in 12:44.33.
In the JV8+, the Dragons team of Cleri (coxswain), Addison Devine (stroke), Olivia Zwickle, Avery Panico, Maya Jacobsen, Rachel Willey, Madeleine Rubinstein, Julia Porro, and Katie Ernst (bow) rowed Cara Fry to a silver medal finish in 13:18.32. The "B" boat, coxed by Winnie Wong in Marlene Buckley II, turned in an eighth place finish in 13:50.10.
In the V4+, Drexel's "A" boat, competing in Marci, finished eighth out of 44 teams as Chloe Speciale (coxswain), Sophia Lamb (stroke), Mollie Knoff, Lexie Hain, and Morgan Van Dexter (bow) completed the course in 14:04.23. The "B" boat of Maddie Depommier (coxswain), Anna Kretzer (stroke), Valentina Frusone, Emily Ellis, and Genevieve Rowlands (bow) also finished in the top third of the field, rowing Diane Corle to a 13th place finish.
The Novice 4+ boat of Wong (coxswain), Margaret Horgan (stroke), Hannah Walseth, Ariana Townsend, and Sarah Ghazaz (bow) rowed Marci to a win with a time of 14:25.63, besting the other nine boats in the race.
Drexel returns to action next weekend with a trip to Boston for the Head of the Charles Regatta on October 22-23.
