Women's Varsity 8+ Wins Head of the Charles

BOSTON – In one of the most impressive and significant performances in program history, the Drexel women's varsity 8+ claimed the gold medal at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday afternoon.
The victory is the first for the Dragons at one of the biggest and most prestigious regattas of the fall season. The previous best finish for DU was third in 2019.
Competing in Alleva XVII, the team of Natalie Cleri (coxswain), Julianna Rogers (stroke), Hayley McKeever, Giavanna Hunt, Mollie Knoff, Kirby Droogan, Rita Keefer, Taylor Powell and Kayla Driscoll (bow) finished in a time of 16:27.976, more than two seconds ahead of Radcliffe and nearly five seconds in front of Yale.
Drexel was fourth at the first marker, half a second behind Yale, but pulled ahead by nearly two seconds at the midway point and extended its lead through the remainder of the race.
Also in the women's club 8+, DU sophomore Baylor Henry competed for Rowing in Color as part of the first ever Black, all-female 8+.
In the women's club 4+, Drexel posted a time of 19:10.738, placing 18th in a field of 52 boats.
The Dragons return to Philadelphia on October 29-30 for the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.
