Washington Nets 34 In Season Opening Win Against Rider

PHILADELPHIA – Keishana Washington dropped 34 points as the Drexel women's basketball team won its season opener, 84-58 against the Rider Broncs.

BY THE NUMBERS
- Washington's 34 points are the first 30-point game in a season opener since Bailey Greenberg had 31 against Quinnipiac on November 5, 2019.
- Kylie Lavelle scored 20 in the contest. It is the most points by a player in her Drexel debut since the team joined the CAA for the 2001-02 season.
- Grace O'Neill added nine points. Maura Hendrixson had six points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals.
- The 84 points are the most by the Dragons as a team since an 84-74 win against William & Mary on February 21, 2020.
- The Dragons shot a blistering 55.7 percent (34-for-61) for the game and committed just seven turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a high-scoring first quarter, the Dragons pulled away towards the end, scoring nine of the last 11 points in the frame. Seven of them came from Washington as DU took a 20-15 lead at the end of 10 minutes.
- The pace didn't slow in the second period as Drexel put up 27 in the stanza. Washington posted 12 and Lavelle added six as DU used a 17-4 during the first six minutes of the quarter with the Dragons taking a 47-29 advantage into intermission.
- The teams played evenly in the third quarter as Rider was unable to dent the Drexel lead as DU went up 68-47 heading into the fourth.
