Women's Tennis Defeats UConn for First Win of Spring Season, 4-3

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Drexel women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the spring season on Friday afternoon after defeating UConn, 4-3, in a neutral site match at West Point, N.Y. Lorie Lemongo earned her first dual match victory in her young career in the Dragons' win over the Huskies.

In doubles play, Mya Fuentes and Lemongo defeated their opponents in the first-seeded doubles match, 6-2. However, it was the only victory in doubles play as UConn took the other two flights.

The Dragons bounced back in singles play, winning four of six. In the top-seeded flight, Lemongo picked up her first collegiate singles match in a dual after climbing out of a 5-0 hole in the third set and downing her opponent, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. In the No. 3 singles match, Tara Veluvolu emerged victorious after a three-set battle, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. In the fourth-seeded singles match, Isabel Cabrerizo made quick work of her opponent, 7-5, 6-0. To complete the card, Aida Garcia Mendez picked up a two-set victory, 6-4, 6-4.

On Saturday, the Dragons return to West Point, N.Y., to face Army at 1 p.m.
