WEST LONG BEACH, N.J. – The Drexel men's tennis team had its perfect 4-0 start to the season come to an end on Saturday night. The Dragons fell to the Monmouth Hawks, 7-0.
The Dragons fought hard, pushing two singles matches into a third set. Alex De Sousa won the first set of his top-seeded match but could not come out on top of his opponent. Matvey Radionov took his match into a third set in the No. 6 but could not overcome the challenge.
The Dragons competed with a couple of changes in the lineup. Radionov, who usually competes in the No. 2 doubles match with Sanil Jagtiani, was a late scratch in his doubles match. Another notable omittance was Djordje Janackovic, who competes in No. 3 doubles and the fifth-seeded singles match was not able to compete due to injury. Alan Jesudason, one of Drexel's most promising players, continues to work through an injury that has kept him on the sidelines for most of the spring season. The freshman competed in his second doubles match of the season at No. 2, but his injury kept him out of his singles match.
The Dragons look to bounce back on Saturday, Feb. 19, against Lehigh. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Drexel Tennis Bubble.
