No. 6 Women's Squash Tops No. 2 Trinity To Clinch Berth In National Championship Match

BOSTON, Mass. – Culminating with a dramatic reverse sweep in the number two position, the No. 6 Drexel University women's squash team advanced to the national championship match of the CSA Howe Cup, downing the No. 2 Trinity Bantams 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
The Dragons now face No. 1 Harvard on Sunday, February 27 at 12:00 p.m. with the winner crowned the 2022 national champion.
With the match tied at 4-4, the berth in the title tilt came down to the second position. Alina Bushma fell behind 0-2, dropping the opening games 15-13 and 11-9. Rallying, she broke open a close third game, winning 11-7. After scoring the first 10 points and cruising in the fourth game 11-2, Bushma went up 9-2 in the fifth and final game before holding off Nouran Youssef 11-5 to secure the win for the Dragons.
Drexel started the day off well as Dina Rosli ran her record to 15-0 on the year with an 11-3, 6-11, 11-6, 11-7 against Lily Taylor-French at number eight. Noa Romero increased the Dragons' lead, downing Madeleine Hylland 11-9, 4-11, 11-7, 11-4 in the fourth position. After a setback, DU went up 3-1 when Lydia Robinson beat Zeinab Bakayoko 11-4, 11-7, 11-4 at number nine.
The Bantams closed to 3-2 before Brooke Herring outlasted Nanna Carleke 12-10, 12-10, 11-7 in the sixth spot. Trinity claimed two more wins to knot the score, setting up Bushma's heroics.
At No. 2, Trinity is the highest ranked opponent Drexel has ever beaten and it is the first win for DU against the Bantams.
