NEWARK, Del. - Melik Martin scored 21 points and Camren Wynter added 17 as Drexel defeated Delaware, 76-68. With the win Drexel improved to 10-10 overall, 5-5 in league play and won in Newark for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
Drexel raced out to a 45-36 lead at the half and led the rest of the way. The Blue Hens (15-8, 6-4 CAA) cut the lead to two with 12:49 to play. After the teams swapped baskets, the Dragons went on a 12-2 run to take a 68-56 lead. Martin capped the run with his second 3-pointer of the game. Drexel held off the Blue Hens down the stretch as Delaware couldn't make it a one possession game the rest of the way.
The Dragons finished the four-game road swing with a 2-2 record. They faced three of the top four teams in the league during that stretch.
Martin finished the game 9-for-14 from the floor and also had seven rebounds. Wynter added 17 points and five assists. The senior was 5-for-5 from the line and gave the Dragons some breathing room by making a pair with 24 seconds to play. Amari Williams had his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Xavier Bell was 6-for-9 from the floor and had 15 points.
Andrew Carr led Delaware with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Jameer Nelson, Jr. had 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
The Dragons shot 53 percent from the field, the fifth time this season they eclipsed the 50 percent mark. They also drained 7-for-17 from behind the arc, which increased their league leading percentage from long range. On the other end of the court, Drexel held the Blue Hens to just 5-for-21 shooting from 3-point territory.
The Dragons will finally get to play a game in the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Monday. They will face James Madison at 7 p.m. in a game that can be seen live on NBC Sport Philly+.
