PHILADELPHIA – Camren Wynter scored a season-high 27 points, including 22 in the second half as Drexel defeated JMU at the Daskalakis Athletic Center, 72-66. The Dragons overcame a 12-point deficit to improve to 6-5 in Colonial Athletic Association play and 11-10 overall. JMU fell to 13-9 overall and 4-7 in league play. It was JMU's last visit to the DAC as a member of the CAA.
Wynter had arguably his best game of the season on Monday night. The senior was 8-for-12 from the floor and drained four 3-pointers. He also handed out six assists as the Dragons rallied from a sluggish first half to take control of the game. Melik Martin added 14 points for Drexel, while Amari Williams had his second straight double-double with 11 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
The Dragons trailed, 28-16, at intermission and went a stretch of 9:30 without a point midway through the half. They made just two of their 17 long-range attempts and had just seven field goals overall. The second half was a different story as Drexel shot 67 percent from the floor and outscored JMU, 56-38. The 56 points were the most in a half for the Dragons in almost three years. Drexel made five 3-pointers in the first seven minutes of the half. They trailed, 42-37, with just under 13 minutes to play, but rattled off 13-straight points to take the lead for good. The Dragons' defense held the Dukes without a field goal for almost seven minutes as they defeated their CAA rival for the eighth time in the last 10 meetings.
Vado Morse led JMU with 17 points. Terrence Edwards added 14 points, while Alonzo Sule scored 11. The Dukes drained 11 3-pointers and forced 14 Drexel turnovers in the game.
The Dragons will play the second of three straight home games at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Thursday night. Hofstra will come into town for its annual visit. The Pride defeated UNCW on Monday night and are 7-4 in the CAA, one game ahead of Drexel.
