Dragons Fall to Hofstra at the DAC, 83-73

PHILADELPHIA – Hofstra shot 64 percent in the second half and went on to defeat Drexel, 83-73, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Thursday night.
The Pride (16-9, 8-4 CAA) went on and early 9-2 run in the second half to break a tie and take a 47-40 lead with 15 minutes to go. Hofstra would hold the lead the rest of the contest. Hofstra shot a blistering 57.9 percent in the game, the highest total of any Drexel opponent this season. Aaron Estrada led the Pride with 32 points on 14-for-21 shooting. The league's leading scorer drained four 3-pointers and had six assists.
Amari Williams led Drexel (11-11, 6-6 CAA) with 19 points. The sophomore blocked a pair of shots and added three steals. Camren Wynter scored 17 points. The senior moved past Damion Lee and Todd Lehmann into ninth place on Drexel's career scoring list with 1,551 points. Melik Martin contributed 14 point and snared a team-best six rebounds.
Drexel entered the game leading the CAA in 3-point shooting, but managed to make just five of its 19 attempts from long range. Four of those five 3-pointers came in the first half.
The teams went to the half tied at 36-36 after an exciting first 20 minutes. There were 14 lead changes in the first half as neither team could extend a lead more than five points.
Jalen Ray added 20 points for Hofstra and made six of his seven shots. Abayomi Iyiola had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Dragons conclude their three-game homestand on Saturday when Northeastern comes to town. Drexel will then play three straight on the road, starting on Monday against the College of Charleston.
