Hammitt Notches 50th Career Singles Win
PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's tennis team defeated the Bucknell Bison, 7-0, on Sunday to improve to a 4-0 mark in the spring season. The Dragons are off to the best start of a spring season since joining the Colonial Athletic Association in 2001.
The Dragons made quick work of the Bison in singles play. The duo of Xandy Hammitt and Alex De Sousa defeated their opponents in the top-flight, 6-4, while Sanil Jagtiani and Matvey Radionov took care of business in the No. 2 spot, 6-1.
In singles play, De Sousa competed in the No. 1 match and defeated his opponent, 6-2, 6-1. Jagtiani competed in the second-seeded singles match downed his Bison opponent, 6-3, 7-6 (2). Once again, Radionov clinched the duel for the Dragons after almost blanking his opponent, 6-1, 6-0.
In the third-seeded match, Hammitt dropped the first set, 7-6 (4), but battled back by winning both the second and third set, 6-4. The win marks Hammitt's 50th singles victory, tying Xabier Saavedra '16 for sixth in the program's record book.
Djordje Janackovic took care of business in the No. 5 singles match, 7-5, 6-0, while Juan Manuel Sanchez earned his victory in the sixth-seeded singles match with a 6-4, 6-0 win.
The Dragons travel to West Long Beach, N.J. on Feb. 12 to face Monmouth. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
