PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team was defeated by the Syracuse Orange, 7-0, on Sunday at the Hecht and Hamlin Tennis Center.

Syracuse jumped to a quick start by taking the doubles point with the first and second-seeded matches. Cristina Corte González and Tara Veluvolu competed closely in the third-seeded match but could not hold on. The duo dropped the match 6-4.

Veluvolu earned her first career match at the No. 2 spot in singles play and made the most of it. The senior took the first set, 6-2, and continued to apply pressure on the usual Orange ace. Veluvolu dropped the second set, 6-1, and fell in the third set, 10-6.

The Dragons travel to Storrs, Conn., on Feb. 11 to face the UConn Huskies. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
