MOVIN' ON!! Dragons Down Hofstra to Advance to CAA Semis

PHILADELPHIA – A dominating defensive effort and some key runs in the middle of the game propelled the top-seeded Drexel University women's basketball team to a 60-39 win against the Hofstra Pride in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Friday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS
- Keishana Washington led the offense with 21 points, connecting on a trio of three-pointers.
- Tessa Brugler posted her 11th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She also came up with a career-high five steals.
- Hannah Nihill was also in double figures with 11 points. With her appearance in the game, she set the CAA all-time record with 148 games played.
- Maura Hendrixson led the Dragons with six assists and did not commit a turnover.
- Mariah Leonard added eight points, six rebounds, and three assists. Her fifth board was the 500th of her career.
- The Dragons had 13 steals in total in the game and outrebounded Hofstra 35-27.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a slow start for both teams, Drexel turned up the defense after the first media timeout, going on a 14-2 run, forcing five Hofstra turnovers in the span. That spurt propelled the Dragons to a 16-8 lead after 10 minutes.
- Drexel continued to build as the second quarter wore on, pushing the edge to 26-11 on a layup by Brugler with 4:43 left in the frame, eventually taking a 30-16 advantage into intermission.
- The Pride battled back to begin the third, cutting the score to single digits at 35-26, three minutes into the quarter. A 9-2 run, capped by a pair of Leonard free throws, gave DU a 44-28 lead at the 2:18 mark.
- Drexel extended its lead in the fourth, forcing Hofstra to commit five turnovers and held the Pride to 3-for-12 shooting.
