Women's Basketball Closes Historic Regular Season

TOWSON, Md. – The Drexel University women's basketball team closed out a historic regular season with an 69-61 setback at Towson on Saturday afternoon.
Drexel ends the regular season 24-4, tied for the most wins in program history prior to the conference tournament. At 16-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, the Dragons are the top seed in next week's CAA Tournament.

The Dragons open postseason play with a quarterfinal matchup in the CAA Championship presented by Primis on Friday, March 11 at noon against the winner of the First Round game between Hofstra and UNCW.
Drexel ends the regular season 24-4, tied for the most wins in program history prior to the conference tournament. At 16-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, the Dragons are the top seed in next week's CAA Tournament.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Hannah Nihill scored 18 points and added five assists and four steals. In the process, she joined Barbara Yost (1985-88) as the only two players in program history with 1,000 points, 500 assists, and 300 steals.
- Keishana Washington continued her double figure scoring streak with 16 points.
- Tessa Brugler had 12 points and nine rebounds. Mariah Leonard scored eight with seven boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Drexel started well defensively, holding Towson to 4-for-14 shooting to open the game, but the Tigers remained in the contest, connecting on a trio of three-pointers in the opening quarter and going 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
- After a 9-2 run allowed TU to take the lead, the Dragons scored the final bucket on a layup by Leonard off a feed from Washington, tying the game at 17-17 after 10 minutes.
- The second quarter got off to a rough start for Drexel as after Brugler beat the shot clock with the first basket of the frame, Towson went on a 10-2 run.
- Facing a six-point deficit, a layup from Leonard, two free throws from Brugler, and a running leaner from Nihill tied the score at 27-27. A couple of traded baskets before the break saw Towson take a 31-29 lead at intermission.
- Drexel got the lead right back on a trey from Kate Connolly and held a 34-33 lead on a Brugler layup with 8:21 left in the third. From there, the Tigers scored 15 of the next 19 points to end the frame and take a 48-39 advantage into the final 10 minutes.
- The teams swapped points in the fourth to cement the final score.
