Wynter's 28 Points Not Enough as Delaware Defeats Drexel in CAA Quarterfinals

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Camren Wynter scored 28 points, but Delaware defeated Drexel in the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Championships presented by Jersey Mike's Subs, 66-56, at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.
Wynter's 28 points were the second-highest total for a Drexel player in the CAA Championships. Chris Fouch set the school mark with 30 points during the 2014 postseason against Northeastern. Drexel finished the season with a 15-14 record. Delaware picked up its 20th win and enters the next round with a 20-12 mark.
The Dragons struggled out of the game and scored just 16 points in the first half. That tied their lowest scoring output in the first half this season. Drexel missed all 11 of its 3-point attempts as the Blue Hens took a 27-16 lead to the half. The Blue Hens opened up a 15-point lead early in the second half, but the Dragons clawed their way back into the contest. Drexel went on a 10-0 run capped by a Mate Okros 3-pointer with 13:29 to go and were right back in the game.
The Dragons cut the lead to three points on three occasions in the second half, the last when Coletrane Washington sank a 3-pointer with 5:30 to go in the game. However, Delaware rattled off nine straight points and advanced to the semifinals with the win.
Wynter also moved into sixth place on the school's career scoring list. He now has 1,657 career points, while moved him past Frantz Massenat. Wynter ended his senior season with 577 career assists, which is third all-time at DU and eighth in career steals with 140.
Melik Martin led Drexel with 10 rebounds, while James Butler added five. Butler finished his career with 1,227 career points, passing Samme Givens and moving into 23rd on Drexel's scoring list. He is fourth in school history with 1,013 career rebounds.
Delaware was led by Jyare Davis, who scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds. Andrew Carr added 13, while Jameer Nelson scored 11 points. The Blue Hens shot 47 percent from the floor and held Drexel to just 38 percent in the game. Delaware scored 40 points in the paint as Drexel's Amari Williams fouled out in just 15 minutes. The CAA's Defensive Player of the Year was limited to four points and six rebounds.
