
Women's Rowing Excels on Day One of Sunshine State Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Drexel University women's rowing team far exceeded its pre-regatta seeding and qualified for the grand final in all three of its events with its performance in the heats at the Sunshine State Invitational on Friday afternoon.
The Dragons claimed a win and two second place finishes on the day. The Second Varsity 8+ took the top spot in its heat with a winning time of 6:40.26, finishing more than two seconds ahead of Louisville.
The Varsity 8+ placed second in its heat in one of the most contested races of the afternoon. Drexel posted a time of 6:32.67, just .27 seconds behind Louisville, but .42 second ahead of Tulsa, to ensure DU a spot in the grand final. The Dragons' time was also better than defending CAA champion Northeastern, who competed in the first heat in the V8+.
Opening the day, Drexel took second in its heat of the Varsity 4+ with a time of 7:37.90.
Louisville and Tulsa came into the event receiving votes in the Pocock CRCA Top-25 poll.
The invitational resumes on Saturday morning.
