FAIRFAX STATION, Va. – Taking on some of the top competition on the east coast, the Drexel men's rowing team picked up a couple of big wins at the Occoquan Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

Racing in Lois Krall II, the team of Billy Ernst (coxswain), Jake Miller (stroke), CJ Rooney, Jack Anderson, Nick Perks, James Schmidt, Herbert De Cokere, John Little, and Sam Valigorsky (bow) edged Navy by two tenths of a second, winning with a time of 6:39.2. Drexel earned its spot in the final by topping Jacksonville in the heats, coming in with a 6:40.38 clocking, beating the Dolphins by nearly 15 seconds.
In the Varsity 8+ finals, No. 16 Drexel competed in Lois Krall III and turned in a time of 6:35.9, finishing second to No.12 Navy. Sam DeSilva (coxswain), Josh Diggons (stroke), Matt Reilly, Dimitrije Ibrocic, Damian Lis, Michael Pazderski, Andrew Manns, John Karen, and Roman Smigiel (bow) advanced to the finals with a win against Florida Tech in the heats by more than 14 seconds.
The final event of the day saw DU down Holy Cross in the Third Varsity 8+ as, rowing in Sandra Lee Sheller II, the Dragons finished with a 7:24.4 clocking.
