Dragons Remain in Third Place at CAA Championships

Angelo Giantsopoulos shot a team-best 69 in the second round
ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. - Angelo Giantsopoulos carded a three-under par 69 on Monday as the Drexel golf team completed day two at the CAA Championships at the Cotton Dike Course at Dataw Island. The Dragons had another solid round, shooting a five-under-par 283, on a warm, sunny afternoon in South Carolina.
Giantsopoulos raced out to a quick start with birdies on two of the first three holes. He finished the day with five birdies, including one to close the round on 18. Drue Nicholas and Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa also had sub-par rounds on Monday. Both student-athletes shot two-under par 70's. Nyamukondiwa set the tone for the day as the first Dragon on the course. He had four birdies on the first eight holes. Nicholas continued his consistent play. He was one under on both the front and the back. Jeffrey Cunningham ended his round at 74, while Griffin Mitchell shot a 75.
Heading into the final round, Nicholas is tied for sixth place overall at three-under par. Griffin, who opened the tournament with a 67, is tied for eighth at two-under par.
The Dragons sit at three-under par heading into Tuesday's final round. Drexel is nine shots behind UNCW for second place. The Dragons have a nine-stroke lead over both Elon and Delaware. The College of Charleston leads the tournament at 21-under par. Drexel will begin play on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
