
Day One of Knecht Cup Regatta Sees Three Wins for Women's Rowing

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – Picking up where it left off last week, the Drexel women's rowing team continued its strong spring season on the first day of the Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River on Saturday.
In the heats of the Varsity 8+, the Dragons posted the top time of all 17 teams that took to the water. Competing in Alleva XVII, the group of Natalie Cleri (coxswain), Grace Comerford (stroke), Hayley McKeever, Alexandra Natale, Kirby Droogan, Isabella D'Angelo, Mollie Knoff, Giavanna Hunt, and Kayla Driscoll (bow), won their heat with a 6:39.02 clocking, earning Lane 1 in the semifinals. In the semis, DU improved on its time, crossing the line in 6:38.09, winning against its competition to advance to the Grand Final.
Opening the morning, the Varsity 4+ team of Chloe Speciale (coxswain), Taylor Powell (stroke), Olivia Zwickle, Addison Devine, and Genevieve Rowlands (bow) rowed in Marci and outpaced Delaware by more than 23 seconds to win their heat and qualify for Sunday's final.
The 2V8+ boat, competing in Cara Fry won its heat and qualified for the Grand Final on Sunday, finishing in a time of 6:49.30, more than 14 seconds better than Fordham.
In its 2V4+ heat, Drexel placed second with a time of 7:55.85 to advance to the finals on Sunday. The Novice 8+ also finished second with a 7:33.75 clocking, advancing to Sunday's final.
Sunday's events for the Dragons begin at approximately 9:00 a.m.
