Jeffrey Cunningham Advances to BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship Final

GLADWYNE, Pa. - Jeffrey Cunningham will play for the BMW Philadelphia Amateur title on Saturday after advancing to the finals with a pair of victories on Thursday. Cunningham, a recent Drexel graduate, became the first African-American finalist after defeating Jon Rusk, 2&1, in the semifinals.

Cunningham's big day started early, He defeated J.T. Spina of the Philadelphia Cricket Club, 4&3, in the quarterfinals in the morning to set up his showdown with Rusk. Cunningham, who plays out of LuLu Country Club, will face Michael R. Brown, Jr, in the finals. Brown is also out of LuLu Country Club.

Cunningham's quest to win the 122nd BMW Philadelphia Amateur title and hoist the J. Wood Platt trophy resumes on Saturday at 7:30. Brown enters the finals looking to complete the GAP Grand Slam. He would become only the third player to earn that distinction.
