BY THE NUMBERS
- Avery Powell recorded her second goal of the season for the Dragons.
- Taylor Mason added an assist on Powell's goal, her first point in a Drexel uniform.
- DU outshot App State 13-12 and held a 10-5 edge in attempts on target.
- It is the first shootout win for Drexel since a 3-2 victory against Bucknell on September 24, 2017.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first half, the Mountaineers got the initial goal of the contest, coming off a penalty corner just 39 seconds into the second half.
- The Dragons earned a corner of their own late in the third quarter. Amber Brouwer inserted the ball, which was stopped and set up for Mason. Her initial shot was deflected, but Powell knocked the loose ball out of the air and into the back of the cage to knot the contest at 1-1 with 18 seconds left in the frame.
- With the game tied after 60 minutes, Drexel had the best of the opportunities in the first overtime, including a breakaway by Eline Di Leva that was poked away at the last second by the Mountaineers' keeper.
- The second OT saw App State with the better chances as Drexel had to fend off a corner and two ensuing shots, the last one turned aside by Megan Hadfield with 43 seconds remaining, one of four saves on the day for the senior keeper.
- Each team missed on its first two shootout chances before both squads converted in rounds three and four. In the final round, Hadfield denied Friederike Stegen to give DU a chance at the winner. Tringola came up big, moving to her backhand side before cutting in front of the goalie and poking home the shot to give Drexel the win.
