More than 300 Drexel Student-Athletes Participate on MLK Day of Service
PHILADELPHIA - More than 300 Drexel student-athletes participated in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday. Drexel students, staff, sponsors and partners took part in the Community Clean-Up Day on Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia. The day of service celebrates Dr. King and his legacy to help attain racial equality.
Drexel partnered with West Philly Promise Neighborhood, LA21 (Lancaster Avenue Business Association) and PDAC (Police Department Advisory Committee) to clean up Lancaster Ave between 34th and 51st Street. The volunteers met at the Drexel Recreation Center at 8:45 a.m. and heard a short history of Lancaster Avenue. Volunteers were then split into groups led by members of LA21 and shuttled to different areas along Lancaster Avenue. The event was sponsored by Spark Therapeutics which provided T-shirts that were worn at the event.
