PHILADELPHIA - Keishana Washington of women's basketball and Alex De Sousa of men's tennis have been named the Drexel Dragons of the Week, presented by Rothman Orthopaedics, for the week of January 23-29, 2023.
Washington averaged 20.0 points per game and became just the ninth player in CAA history to reach the 2,000 point milestone during a 2-0 week for the Dragons. She tallied 24 points against Hofstra on Friday, the 11th of which was her historic mark. It was her 15th game this season with 20 or more points and her 53rd in a row in double figures, breaking the Drexel record, previously held by Gabriela Marginean. She followed that performance up with 16 points against Elon on Sunday, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line. She also added six assists and four steals in the pair of games.
De Sousa pieced together a 4-0 week to help the Dragon's pick up their first and second victories of the spring season. In the match on Friday, against city rivals, Villanova, the junior earned a convincing victory in the top flight, 6-1, 6-2. The Canterbury, U.K. native also paired with Alan Jesudason to win the first-seeded doubles match, 6-2. On Saturday, against St. Francis Brooklyn, De Sousa, again rolled through his competition. He earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles and then paired with Jesudason and notched a 6-1 victory. To start the spring season, De Sousa has a 2-1 singles record and a 2-1 doubles record.
