Women's Rowing Starts Strong at Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's rowing team opened its season with a win and a trio of top-5 finishes at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River on Sunday.

The Varsity 8+ rowed Jim & Toni Downey to a fourth place finish as Erin Ernst (coxswain), Taylor Powell (stroke), Mollie Knoff, Hannah Walseth, Margaret Dobrenko, Rita Keefer, Julianna Rogers, Giavanna Hunt and Kayla Driscoll (bow) turned in a time of 13:52.900 and was just one of six boats to out of 26 entries to finish in less than 14 minutes.

In the JV8+, the Dragons took third with a time of 14:55.840. Chloe Minicucci (coxswain), Ellen McCallin (stroke), Kira Tracy, Fiona Steele, Emily Gresham, Baylor Henry, Kieran Harrington, Emily Ellis and Sarah Ghazaz (Bow) competed in Alleva XVII.

A quintet of DU student-athletes tasted victory in their first collegiate competition as Katie O'Donnell (coxswain), Lily Gramlich (stroke), Caroline Payseur, Colette Zidek and Alyssa Bucci (bow) rowed Marci across the finish line in 16:43.400, winning the women's collegiate novice 4+.

Drexel returns to action next Saturday when it competes at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass.
