PHILADELPHIA – The beginning of a new season is always special, but the Drexel women's basketball team will add another layer when the Dragons retire the jersey of Keishana Washington prior to the November 8 against Norfolk State.
One of the premier players in program history, Washington graduated second on the Drexel all-time scoring list with 2,363 points, which is the most ever for a Canadian player in NCAA history. She was named an honorable mention All-American by the AP, WBCA and USBWA and finished last season third in the nation in scoring at 27.7 points per game.
Her four games with 40 or more points last season tied Caitlin Clark of Iowa for the most in the NCAA. Her final career game was arguably her best when she posted a career-high 43 points, setting a record for the most points in a game by any player in the 98-year history of Rose Hill Gym at Fordham. Following the season, she signed a training camp contract with the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA and will begin her professional career in Poland this winter.
The Pickering, Ontario native was named the CAA Player of the Year for her efforts on the court in 2022-23 and was a finalist for both the Ann Meyers Drysdale Naismith Hall of Fame Shooting Guard of the Year Award and the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award. She was noted for her work in the classroom as well, earning CSC Second Team Academic All-America honors. She is also a conference level nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
For her career, Washington ranks in the top-10 in DU history in scoring average (16.0 – 3rd), field goals made (883 – 2nd), free throws made (369 – 7th), free throw percentage (.827 – 5th), three-pointers (228 – 6th) and assists (368 – 10th).
