Temple Comes to the DAC for Dragons First-Ever Big 5 Home Game

PHILADELPHIA - History will be made on Tuesday when the Temple Owls come to the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons will play their first-ever Big 5 home game in front of what is expected to be a capacity crowd. The game can be seen live on NBC Sports Philadelphia+ at 7 p.m.. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker's Local 98 is once again the presenting sponsor of Drexel Men's Basketball. Tuesday night's game against the Owls is brought to you by United Bank of Philadelphia.
About the Dragons
Drexel enters the game with a 1-1 record overall. The Dragons picked up a 74-72 road win at Winthrop on Saturday evening. Justin Moore followed his own shot and scored on a put back with just 2.1 seconds remaining to give Drexel the win. Amari Williams had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Yame Butler added 15 points, while Lamar Oden, Jr. scored all 13 of his points in the second half as Drexel rallied from a 12-point first half deficit. Williams is averaging 17 points and nine rebounds through two games. Moore is second on the team with 12 points per game and leads the club with 4.5 assists.
Drexel was picked to finish third in the CAA this season. The Dragons return four of five starters from a team that won 17 games a year ago. Williams is the CAA Preseason Player of the Year. The big man from England has won the CAA Defensive Player of the Year each of the last two seasons. Tri-captains Luke House, Lamar Oden, Jr. and Mate Okros are also back. All three players were members of Drexel's 2021 CAA Championship team. Moore, Drexel's point guard, was an All-CAA Rookie team pick last year and is poised to have an even bigger year in 2023-24. Overall, Drexel will have 10 returning scholarship players from a year ago.

The Owls have won their first two games of the season under new head coach Adam Fisher. They defeated Maryland Eastern Shore at home and won at the Naval Academy on Friday. Jahlil White leads the team with 18 points, 12 rebounds and a .542 field-goal percentage. Hysier Miller, who played at Neumann Goretti is averaging 16 points and has handed out eight assists in two games. Matteo Picarelli is also in double figures with 13 points per game. He had 17 at Navy.
There are few recognizable faces on the Temple bench. Bobby Jordan, a former Drexel player and assistant coach is one of the Owls' assistants this year. Chris Clark, another assistant, briefly worked on the Drexel staff prior to his appointment at his alma mater. Cam Wynter, one of the top point guards in Drexel history and a captain on Drexel's 2021 NCAA Tournament team is also on Fisher's staff at Temple.

Temple has won the last five games, including a 73-61 last year in North Philadelphia. Khalif Battle led Temple with 25 points, while Amari Williams had 18 for Drexel. The Owls have won 13 of the last 14 meetings with Drexel's only win in the stretch coming in 2006.

The Dragons host a multi-team event this weekend at the DAC. Fairfield and Queens (N.C.) will also be part of the event. Drexel will host Fairfield on Friday night and Queens on Sunday. Queens and Fairfield will play each other on Saturday.
