Dragons Upended by FGCU, 61-35

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Drexel women's basketball team was defeated by the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Wednesday night, 61-35, in Fort Myers, Fla. The game was Drexel's first of two at the Homewood Suites Classic, hosted by FGCU.
BY THE NUMBERS
Brooke Mullin led the Dragons in scoring 12 points on 6-for-13 from the field. Mullin also collected four rebounds and had two assists.
The Dragons held the Eagles, who entered the contest seventh in three point attempts, to just 6-for-20 from long range.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles opened the game with a 12-point first quarter and held Drexel to single digits with eight points. Drexel, however, caused six turnovers and limited FGCU to just one 3-pointer.
The Dragons continued to challenge FGCU's three-point game in the second quarter. The Eagles were only successful on two of the eight chances they took. As a team, FGCU ended the half, shooting only 2-for-12 from behind the line. Drexel's offensive game improved in the second frame. The visitors shot 5-for-10 from the field. FGCU ended the half with a 26-18 lead.
FGCU widened the lead in the third quarter. The Eagles shot 10-for-15 for a total of 23 points and held Drexel to 4-for-9 from the field for nine points.
FGCU outscored the Dragons in the fourth quarter 12-8. The Eagles went 4-for-11 to close the game out and held Drexel to just 3-for-11.
