Dragons Fall at Princeton, 81-70

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton Tigers raced out to an early lead and defeated Drexel, 81-70, at Jadwin Gymnasium on Tuesday night. Justin Moore had a season-high 19 points and Kobe MaGee scored a career-high 18 points off the bench to lead Drexel. The Dragons fell to 5-4, while the Tigers won their ninth straight game to start the season.
Princeton made its first three shots, two of them from long range, and took and 8-1 lead before the Dragons were able to make a field goal. Xaivian Lee scored 11 of his 23 points in the first half for the Tigers. The Tigers shot 50 percent from the floor and their smothering defense held Drexel to just 29 percent shooting and forced six turnovers. Garfield Turner and Justin Moore each had five points in the half. Despite those numbers, the Dragons trailed by only 10 points at intermission.
The Tigers opened the second half with six straight field goals and extended its lead to as many as 18. The Dragons started to chip away and cut into the lead. The game got down to single digits on two occasions, but each time the Tigers answered the Dragons run.
With the win the Tigers improved to 9-0. The nine consecutive wins to start a season tied the school record, which was set during the 1914-15 season and matched during the 1919-20 academic year.
MaGee had a breakout game for the Dragons. The sophomore was 8-for-14 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds. He shattered his previous career-high of 12 points set last season. Moore was 8-for-10 from the line and also had three steals in the game.The Dragons dominated the glass and had 19 offensive rebounds that they turned into 24 second chance points. However, Princeton's offense was too much on this night as the Tigers shot 67 percent in the second half and 58 percent overall. Lee added nine rebounds and six assists to go along with his 23 points. Caden Pierce missed just one of his 10 shots and scored 19 points..
Drexel's final game before finals week takes place on Saturday. The Dragons will face Big 12 opponent West Virginia in Morgantown, W.V. at 4 p.m.
