HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Drexel had its two-game winning streak come to an end at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex on Monday night. The Hofstra Pride (20-8, 13-2) remained in a tie for first place in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 66-52 win against the Dragons. Drexel fell to 9-6 in CAA play and 15-12 overall.
The Pride jumped out to a 10-3 lead and led by as many as 16 in the first half. Drexel started out just 2-for-11 from the floor, but chipped away to get back in the game. The Dragons rattled off nine-straight points and held the high-scoring Pride without a point for more than five and a half minutes. Garfield Turner had a solid first half off the bench for DU, scoring seven points and grabbing four rebounds. Aaron Estrada and Darlinstone Dubar each had 11 first-half points for Hofstra, who never trailed in the game. The Pride led 30-22 at intermission.
Hofstra opened the second half by scoring six straight points and led by double digits the rest of the way. It just wasn't Drexel's night on the offensive end of the court. The Dragons managed to shoot just 36 percent from the floor and made just two of their 17 long-range attempts.
Amari Williams led Drexel with 13 points. Lamar Oden, Jr. added nine points and had eight boards. Turner also had eight rebounds on the night.
Estrada led everyone with 22 points. Dubar was perfect from the floor (7-for-7) and had 16 points.
The Dragons return home and tip-off against UNCW on Thursday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
