Dragons Turn In Strong Defensive Effort In Downing Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Drexel women's basketball team turned in one of its best defensive efforts of the season as the Dragons won their 20th game of the year, downing the Hofstra Pride 58-34 on Friday night.

Drexel returns home for its final two games of the regular season, starting with a contest against the William & Mary Tribe on Sunday, February 26. It is Play4Kay Day for the Dragons who will be raising funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Tipoff from the Daskalakis Athletic Center is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Keishana Washington led all scorers with 21 in the game.
- Hetta Saatman posted her eighth game in double figures this season with 10.
- Maura Hendrixson delivered 10 assists. The ninth was her 200th of the season, just the 12th player in CAA history to reach the milestone. It was also her seventh game this year with 10 or more assists.
- The Drexel bench played a big role in the game, scoring 23 points with seven rebounds and seven steals. Tori Hyduke scored nine and Jasmine Valentine tied a career-high with eight points. Chloe Hodges tallied six with five boards.
- It was the lowest point total DU allowed this season and the second time this year holding an opponent under 40.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team shot particularly well in the opening quarter as Drexel was 5-for-15 with Hofstra going 3-for-13. The Dragons got nine points from Washington in the frame as DU lead 11-8 after 10 minutes.
- Drexel found its shot as the second period moved on and kept up the defensive intensity as the Dragons scored 15 of the first 23 points seven minutes into the stanza. During the quarter, DU held the Pride to 2-for-10 shooting with seven turnovers as the Dragons took a 26-16 advantage into the break.
- The Dragons continued to distance themselves from the Pride, opening the third on a 9-3 run with Saatman scoring seven of the points. Drexel extended the lead to as many as 18 before a late Hofstra run pulled it back to 41-26 with 10 minutes remaining. DU then extended the lead methodically in the fourth to create the final.
