PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team defeated the Norfolk State Spartans on Friday night at the Vidas Courts, 7-0.
In doubles play, the Dragons earned a win in all three matches. Aida Garcia Mendez and Mya Fuentes earned a victory by way of walkover, while Lorie Lemongo and Renata Lombera teamed in the top-seeded match, 6-0. In the second-seeded match, Isabel Cabrerizo and Cristina Corte Gonzalez downed their opponents, 6-0.
In singles play, the Spartans forfeited the sixth-seeded match and the fifth-seeded match. In the top-seeded singles match, Lemongo downed her opponent, 6-2, 7-5. In the second-seeded match, Lombera earned a two-set victory, 6-2, 6-3. The No. 3 match was nearly perfect for Isabel Cabrerizo as she defeated her counterpart, 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 4 match, Cristina Corte Gonzalez earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
The Dragons return to action on Sunday, Feb. 26 when the team travels to Penn to face the Quakers. First serve is scheduled for noon.
