Washington Named CAA Player of the Year; Three Dragons Honored in Postseason Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – Keishana Washington was named the CAA Player of the Year, leading three Drexel women's basketball players honored by the conference in its annual awards on Tuesday as voted on by the league's coaches. Kylie Lavelle and Grace O'Neill were both selected to the All-Rookie Team.
Washington is second in the nation at 27.0 points per game and has set a Dragons single-season record with 783 points. A five-time conference Player of the Week, she is also fourth in the CAA in assists at 3.9 points a contest. She ranks fifth in the league in free throw percentage at 84.3 percent and fifth in field goal percentage at 43.1 percent. Washington is also the only player in NCAA Division I this season with three games of 40 or more points. She has 11 games with 30+ points, 24 with 20+ and has scored in double figures in 63 consecutive contests. She was also voted to the First Team.
The graduate student from Pickering, Ontario is also a finalist for the Naismith Hall of Fame/WBCA Ann Meyers Drysdale Award as the top shooting guard in the nation, a finalist for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award and is on the watch lists for the USBWA National Player of the Year and the Dawn Staley Award as the top guard in the nation.
Lavelle was selected as the Rookie of the Week four times and is averaging 10.9 points per game, second among CAA rookies. She has 10 games this season with 10 or more points and set a Drexel freshman record when she dropped 31 at La Salle.
O'Neill is averaging 7.4 points and a team-leading 5.1 rebounds per game. A two-time CAA Rookie of the Week, she is tied for 11th in the conference with 46 steals. She has scored in double figures eight times with a career-high 19 twice, against Towson on January 1 and at Hampton on January 19.
Drexel begins its CAA Tournament run on Friday, March 10 at 5:00 p.m. when it plays a quarterfinal game against the winner of the Second Round game between Monmouth and Charleston.
