MINNEAPOLIS – Following a season full of accomplishments, Keishana Washington has signed a training camp contract with the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA with the potential to make the roster.
"I want to thank the Minnesota Lynx for giving me the opportunity to play at the highest level," said Washington. "I'm extremely excited and ready to work and learn from some of the greatest in the game."
Washington is the second WNBA signee from Drexel, joining Gabriela Marginean who played in four games for Minnesota in 2010.
"Our entire program, staff and department are incredibly proud of Kei. She has truly been a gift to Drexel basketball and this accomplishment is a tribute to her hard work on and off the court," said head coach Amy Mallon. "Her growth as a leader and success story will continue to inspire not only her Drexel teammates, but our future student-athletes. This day marks another historic moment for our program and Kei's journey to success. I can't wait to see her be a role model for young ballers across the nation and world."
Washington was the first WBCA All-American in program history, also earning All-America accolades from the Associated Press, U.S. Basketball Writers Association and was a College Sports Communicators Second Team Academic All-American. The CAA Player of the Year, she finished the season third in NCAA Division I at 27.7 points per game and with 858 points. She ranked fourth with 302 field goals made and was sixth with 197 free throws made. She is one of two players this year with four games of 40 or more points, achieving the feat in the WNIT with a career-high 43 points at Fordham. That effort was only matched by Caitlin Clark of Iowa who had two of her 40-point efforts in the NCAA Tournament.
Her season numbers of 858 points, 27.7 points per game and 302 field goals are all second in a single year in CAA history.
From an overall standpoint, the Pickering, Ontario native scored 2,363 career points. She is the all-time leader among Canadian scorers in NCAA history, second on the Drexel career list, fourth in CAA scoring and sixth on the City 6 charts. In addition to scoring, she graduates inside the Dragons' career top-10 in field goals made (883 – 2nd), three-pointers made (228 – 6th), free throws made (369 – 7th) and assists (368 – 10th).
The Lynx begin their season on May 19 against the Chicago Sky at 8:00 p.m. EDT.
