2V8+ Leads Men's Rowing as Dragons Win Five Medals at Knecht Cup Regatta

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Drexel men's rowing team earned two gold and three silver medals as the Dragons wrapped a strong weekend on the water at the Knecht Cup Regatta.
Leading the way for DU was the 2V8+ as Drexel's entries in the race went 1-2 in the standings. In Lois Krall II, the "A" boat of Billy Ernst (coxswain), John Karen (stroke), Roman Smigiel, Alex Manolarakis, James Schmidt, Jake Miller, Zach Key, Lake Watson and Sam Valigorsky (bow) won with a time of 5:55.95. The "B" boat was next in line, as Alex Dragovits (coxswain), Sean Blair (stroke), Dearon Tufankjian, Richmond Coney, Nick Foley, Jack Hutchison, Daniel Yurcisin, Thomas Gola and Sean Williams (bow) took Scheller II across the finish line in 5:59.31, edging local rival La Salle by .61 seconds.
The Varsity 8+, ranked No. 15 in the most recent IRCA poll, took home a silver medal in Lois Krall III. Sam DeSilva (coxswain), Kosta Petkovic (stroke), Nikola Loncar, Josh Diggons, Damian Lis, Vuk Mladenovic, Nemanja Sajatovic, Jack Anderson and Andrew Manns (bow) turned in a 5:59.79 clocking, besting No. 18 La Salle in the process.
Claiming gold was the Novice 8+ as Charlotte Bentrim (coxswain), George Karacsonyi (stroke), Jono Andersson, Ben Werber, Justin Getty, Gavin Roe, Aidan Ionescu, Sam Duncan and Anthony Coluzzi (bow) raced Annette Pennoni to a time of 6:10.00.
Finishing the medal count for Drexel was the V4+ "B" effort from Bentrim (coxswain), Karacsonyi (stroke), Andersson, Werber and Aidan Ionescu (bow) who took Diane Corle across the finish line in 6:49.93, placing second.
Drexel returns to action on Saturday, April 22 when it hosts the Kerr Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River at 10:00 a.m.
