Drexel Field Hockey Announces Seven Additions to 2023 Roster

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel Field Hockey is ecstatic to welcome seven new athletes to its roster for the 2023 season including Delfi Cabral, Pien Elsen, Lily Haag, Val Van Hellemont, Grace O'Connor, Alana Poole, Pili Lemoine. The Class of 2027 brings to Drexel a variety of skill sets and a hunger to help this team achieve success on the field and in the classroom.
"We are really excited for the addition of this amazing class. Graduating nine exceptional players will definitely bring change, but we are confident that this class has the strength, skill and commitment to quickly impact our program.

Delfi Cabral
Delfi comes to Drexel from Instiuto Nuestra Señora in Cordoba, Argentina. Cabral was a four-year member of the field hockey team. She helped lead her team to two Fifth Category championships in 2021 and 2022. While at Drexel, Delfi would like to pursue graphic design and aspires to become a graphic designer once she graduates.
Pien Elsen
Elsen currently attends Montessori Lyceum Rotterdam in The Netherlands where she has been a member of the field hockey and tennis teams. Pien has led her team to a Dutch indoor title and two Dutch outdoor championships. Additionally, the Rotterdam native was the club champion in shootouts. Elsen is looking to pursue a degree in business and plans to study to be a managing director of a hotel or travel agency.
Lily Haag
Lily Hagg is a student-athlete at Central Bucks South in Warrington, Pa. Haag is a four-year member of the field hockey team and has experience as a forward, left and right back, and defensive mid during her career. As a captain of the field hockey squad, she is a First Team All-State and All-Area, Suburban One First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mention selection. As part of Strikers Field Hockey, her team was the 2021 JPOL and 2022 Thanksgiving Shooting Stars champion. Haag plans on majoring in economics and hopes to open up her own business after Drexel.
Val Van Hellemont
Val will join the Dragons from Lier, located in the Antwerp Province of Belgium. She has competed for Sint-Aloysius Institute in tennis and field hockey. In 2019, Van Hellemont was honored as the most valuable player on her field hockey team. Val looks to study exercise science with hopes to become a physiotherapist.
Grace O'Connor
Grace O'Connor attends Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pa. A multi-sport athlete, she is a four-year member of the field hockey team, a three-year member of lacrosse, and was on the indoor track team for a year. O'Connor was named 1st Team All-Central League and 1st Team All-Main Line for three years. O'Connor comes from an athletic family with her mother, Melissa, having played field hockey at Penn, her father, Will, having rowed at Penn, and her older brother, Matthew, currently playing football at Stetson. Additionally, her older sister, Sage is a member of Drexel Field Hockey. Grace's mother previously worked as an assistant coach for the DUFH program at the beginning of head coach Denise Zelenak's tenure. In addition, her cousins Geoff Sage and Derek Fink are alumni of the Drexel Men's Lacrosse program. A native of Narberth, Pa., Grace plans to major in business at Drexel.
Alana Poole
Alana will join the Dragons after four years at Garnet Valley High School. She was a four-time letter winner, a 2021 Honorable Mention All-Central League, and a 2022 Second Team All-Central League. In the classroom, Alana is a two-time PHSFCA All-Academic and honor roll student. In 2021, her team was honored as an NFHCA High School National Academic Squad. The Glen Mills, Pa. native is intending to major in business.
Pili Lemoine
Pili Lemoine attends the Instituto Preuniversitario Juan XXIII in Montevideo, Uruguay. She is a multi-sport athlete in field hockey and swimming. Additionally, she has earned her black belt in taekwondo. Lemoine is a member of the U21 Uruguay National Team. Pili's uncle, Pablo Lemoine is a retired professional rugby player. While at Drexel, she plans to study engineering.
