WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Drexel men's tennis team defeated the North Carolina A&T Aggies in a quarterfinals match of the CAA Tournament, 4-0. With the victory, Drexel advances to the semifinals for the third time in program history.
Due to inclement weather, the CAA Quarterfinals were moved inside the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center and the match would began with singles and would only go to the doubles matches in case of a tie. This was not needed on Friday for Drexel.
Drexel captured three singles points relatively easy as Hugo Brungs in the No. 5 spot downed his opponent with a pair of 6-4 sets. Matvey Radionov took his No. 4 match, 7-5, 6-2 and Juan Manuel Sanchez won in the sixth spot, 6-2, 7-5.
The match came down to whichever match was going to end first. Daniel Dudockin in the second flight was in the middle of his third set and was down 2-1 when the match was called. In the No. 3 match, Alex De Sousa was one point away from the clincher when Alan Jesudason in the top flight decided the match for Drexel. Jesudason won his match 7-6 (7-2) and then won the second set, 7-5.
Drexel will face UNCW in the conference semifinals on Saturday. The first serve is slated for noon from the Mackesy Tennis Center at the Millie West Courts.
