Women's Rowing Sweeps Kelly Cup Races on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University women's rowing team had a standout day on their water to start its weekend, taking the top spot in all four races at the Kelly Cup Regatta on Saturday. It is the third consecutive win for the Dragons, follwing victories at the Knecht Cup and Kerr Cup Regattas.

Prior to winning the Kelly Cup, the Dragons honored Natalie Cleri, Addison Devine, Kirby Droogan, Alexandra Gnoza, Lexie Hain, Anna Kretzer, Sophia Lamb, Hayley McKeever, Avery Panico, Julia Porro, Genevieve Rowlands, Madeleine Rubenstein, Morgan Van Dexter and Jaycee Webster for their contributions to the program throughout their careers.

Leading the way was the Varsity 8+ as Cleri (coxswain), Taylor Powell (stroke), Mollie Knoff, Julianna Rogers, McKeever, Droogan, Rita Keefer, Giavanna Hunt and Van Dexter (bow) took Jim & Toni Downey across the finish line in 6:16.0, more than 11 seconds ahead of Saint Joseph's.

The 2V8+ "A" boat competed in Alleva XVII. Chloe Minicucci (coxswain), Lamb (stroke), Kayla Driscoll, Panico, Devine, Rachel Civan, Hain, Margaret Dobrenko, Hannah Walseth, Katie Ernst and Valentina Frusone (bow) clocked in at 6:25.0.

Rowing in Marci, the V4+ of Chloe Speciale (coxswain), Kretzer (stroke), Rowlands, Sarah Ghazaz and Ariana Townsend (bow) claimed the top spot with a time of 7:07.0. The 2V4+ turned in a time of 7:20.0 with Maddie Depommier (coxswain), Sabrina Batdorf (stroke), Gnoza, Ellen McCallin and Emma Doughty (bow) rowing Diane Corle to the win.

Next up for Drexel is a showcase of some of the top teams on the East Coast at the Eastern Sprints Regatta. Among the teams at this year's regatta are No. 5 Brown, No. 15 Radcliffe and No. 18 Rutgers with No. 10 Syracuse and No. 20 Columbia competing in DU's V8+ heat.
