PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team defeated the Monmouth Hawks on Wednesday at Vidas, 4-3.
Drexel took a quick lead after defeating the Hawks in the top-seeded and third-seeded doubles matches. Lorie Lemongo and Renata Lombera paired in the top flight and downed their opponent, 6-0. In the No. 3 match, Mya Fuentes and Cristina Corte Gonzalez defeated their opponents, 6-1.
In singles play, Lemongo earned a clean victory, completely shutting out her opponent in the top flight, 6-0, 6-0. In the second-seeded match, Lombera defeated her opponent, 6-3, 6-0. The Dragons completed the victory with a win in the third-seeded match. Isabel Cabrerizo earned a three-set victory over her opponent, 6-1, 0-6, 6-2.
Drexel returns to Vidas Courts on Thursday to celebrate the teams' seniors and take on Saint Joseph's at 2 p.m. Fuentes, Gonzalez, Katerina Cummings and Aida Garcia Mendez will be celebrated before the match starts.
