PHILADELPHIA – Drexel Athletics established a new record raising over $500,000 dollars during 24 Hours of Impact, the University's annual Day of Giving, on May 10. Collectively the department accounted for nearly 60 percent of the total donations on the day with 3,500 gifts being made to support Dragon student-athletes.
"Thank you to everyone who invested in the success of our student-athletes during 24 Hours of Impact," said Director of Athletics Maisha Kelly. "The annual growth of this day has been remarkable. Your generosity fuels our programs, ensuring they are able to compete at a high level, while positioning our athletes to excel athletically, academically and personally."
Athletics had 13 programs finish within the top 16 of campus organizations in overall donations. Men's swimming and diving led all athletics teams and placed second overall with wrestling finishing third. Women's soccer, men's soccer, women's lacrosse and men's and women's rowing also placed in the top 10.
Three teams – men's lacrosse, women's basketball and wrestling – surpassed $50,000 raised during the day with wrestling achieving the feat for the third consecutive year.
"The record support for Drexel Athletics during 24 Hours of Impact speaks to the passion that our alumni, parents, fans and friends have for the Dragons. We're grateful for their generosity, as well as the partnership of our coaches, student-athletes and colleagues across campus who make the day a success," said Kerry DiBlasio, Assistant Vice President, Development.
