PHILADELPHIA – Latifat Olatunji, graduate assistant for Drexel University's ACHIEVE Center, attended the Emerging Leaders Seminar, hosted in Indianapolis, Indiana, from January 28-30. The three-day event welcomed over 200 attendees across all three NCAA Divisions.
Olatunji said of her experience, "The NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar was an incredible experience that left me motivated and excited for what's ahead. Being surrounded by leaders who value growth, intentional thinking, and community across college athletics encouraged me to confidently take up space and engage fully in the experience. The seminar reinforced the importance of making purposeful choices, embracing everything as a lesson, and pursuing challenges that genuinely inspire growth. I'm grateful for the opportunity to represent Drexel University and to continue to develop as a leader through experiences like this."
The seminar this year had a theme of "The Takeoff: Take Up Space!", and those who attended heard from keynote speaker, Mike Smith, Co-founder and Executive Growth and Innovation Director of The Bay, and Felicia Martin, Senior Vice President of Inclusion, Education & Community Engagement for the NCAA.
Jessica Angersbach, Assistant Director for Academic Support Services at Drexel and an alumna of the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar, said, "As an alumna of the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar, I know how impactful this experience can be. Latifat approached the seminar with curiosity, confidence, and a willingness to take up space, engaging thoughtfully with peers and professionals across all divisions. This experience marked an important step in her continued growth as a leader in college athletics."
Other speakers for the three-day event included La'Ron Haywood from the Institute for Sport and Social Justice, Bryan Blair, Vice President and Director of Athletics, University of Toledo and Mark Trumbo, Director of Leadership Development for the NCAA.
