Wrestling Welcomes Eight Newcomers for the 2023-24 Season

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel wrestling team is excited to welcome eight newcomers which include a pair of state champions, NJCAA national finalists, and multiple state place winners to their 2023-24 roster. Ibrahim Ameer, Billy Brosko, Trey Friedman, Justin Griffith, Jasiah Queen, George Rhodes, Justin Soriano, and Shane Whitney look to make an immediate impact on the program.
Trey Friedman | 125 / 133 | Fr. | Mount Laurel, N.J. | Lenape
Friedman comes from Lenape High School, where he was a two-time District 27 champion. In the classroom, he was a member of the Business Honor Society and graduated top 20 of his class. Additionally, Trey was a two-time Team New Jersey qualifier at the Fargo Junior National Championships.
Jasiah Queen | 165 | Fr. | Elizabeth, N.J. | Saint John Vianney
Queen comes to Drexel from Saint John Vianney High School, where he was a New Jersey State finalist and Region 5 champion. In addition, he was a Fargo Junior Nationals freestyle All-American, 2023 Escape the Rock champion, and 2022 Beast of the East finalist.
Justin Soriano | 174 | Fr. | Westbury, N.Y. | W.T. Clarke
Justin joins the Dragons from W.T. Clarke High School, where he placed third in the New York State championships. Additionally, as a sophomore, he garnered All-American status at 195. He is set to reunite with his old brother Jordan, who was started at 141 for DU last season.
Justin Griffith | 184 | Fr. | Pennsville, N.J. | Sanford
The Pennsville, N.J. native comes to Drexel following a very successful high school career. Griffith was a three-time Delaware State champion at 190lbs, five-time state finalist and a four-time Academic All-State selection for Sanford. Additionally, Justin was an Escape the Rock champion and placed sixth in the 2022 Beast of the East.
George Rhodes | 184 | Fr. | Galloway, N.J. | Absegami
Rhodes, a New Jersey state place winner comes to Drexel from Abesgami High School. During his time there, he was a three-time Region 8 runner-up and Team New Jersey Fargo Junior National Championships qualifier.
Ibrahim Ameer | 197 | Jr. | St.Louis, Mo. | Cloud County CC
Ameer, a transfer from Cloud County Community College, joins the team following an outstanding junior college career. He was an NJCAA Finalist at 197lbs and an U-20 Greco All American. During his high school career, he was a two-time Missouri State place winner for McCleur North High School.
Shane Whitney | 285 | Jr. | Philadelphia, Pa. | Cape May CC
Whitney transfers to Drexel as a two-time NJCAA All-American at 285lbs for Cape May Community College. In high school, he placed fifth at the 2021 New Jersey State Championships and holds the record for the third most pins in Lower Cape May history.
Billy Brosko | 285 | Fr. | Havertown, Pa. | The Haverford School
Brosko attended the Haverford School, where he was named an Pennsylvania Prep School state champion at heavyweight and a four-time All-American. Additionally, he was a two-time place winner at the National High School Coaches Association National Championships and took fourth at the Beast of the East. Billy was an honor roll student and First Team All-State on the Fords football team.
