GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jamie Bergens hit a 3-pointer late and Amari Williams sank two free throws with 10 seconds to play as Drexel stayed unbeaten in CAA play with a 67-63 victory at North Carolina A&T. The win improved the Dragons' record to 11-6 overall and 4-0 in CAA play. Williams led the Dragons with 15 points, nine rebounds and five blocks, while Luke House added 13 points and was 6-for-8 from the floor.
The game was tight the entire second half, with Drexel holding the lead for most of the half, but the Dragons couldn't put away from the pesky Aggies at the Corbett Sports Center. Williams put the Dragons up for good at 45-44 with 11:55 to go. Drexel went on a 6-0 run that culminated with a House drive to take a seven-point lead. The cushion went to nine, but the Aggies answered by scoring seven of the next eight points. A few minutes later, Landon Glasper made a pair of free throws and all of a sudden Drexel led by just a point. House had another bucket and after an NC A&T free throw, Bergens drained a trey to put the Dragons up by five. The Aggies wouldn't get closer than two the rest of the way and when Williams sank two free throws, Drexel avenged last year's loss in the building to win their fourth straight game.
The Dragons won despite making just two 3-pointers. They once again dominated the glass, outrebounding A&T by 14. Justin Moore chipped in with 11 points, while Bergens had nine to go along with five rebounds.
North Carolina A&T (3-13, 1-2) trailed by eight points in the first three minutes of the game, but used a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 12-10. Drexel responded with a run of its own to take the lead. The Dragons made eight of their last 10 field goal attempts and took a slim lead to the break at 35-29. Drexel shot the ball well in the first half (57 percent) but the Aggies forced the Dragons into nine turnovers.
Glasper led the Aggies with 21 points, while Jalal McKie and Camian Shell each scored 11. The Aggies also struggled from deep, sinking just four of their 16 long-range attempts.
The Dragons finish up their three-game road stretch on Saturday night in Elon.
