Baker's Double-Double Helps Lift Dragons Past UNCW, 59-45

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Amaris Baker posted the first double-double of her career and helped lift the Drexel women's basketball team past the UNCW Seahawks on Sunday afternoon, 59-45. Drexel improved to 8-7 and 3-1 in conference play, while UNCW fell to 2-13 overall and a 0-4 mark in CAA play.
BY THE NUMBERS
Baker scored 10 points and corralled 10 rebounds to collect the team's first double-double of the season.
Hetta Saatman contributed 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting. The graduate student also collected five rebounds.
Brooke Mullin led the Dragons with 18 points. Mullin also dished five helpers and grabbed five rebounds.
Drexel held UNCW to just 28 percent from the field and shut down the Seahawks from long range, forcing them to miss 11 shots from deep.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel opened the game with an 18-point quarter. Saatman led the Dragons in scoring with an eight-point effort. Mullin was second with six points. The Dragons held the Seahawks to just six points in the first frame on 1-for-13 shooting.
In the second quarter, UNCW forced eight turnovers and scored 14 points to pull within six points of Drexel at the end of the half. Drexel scored eight points in the second quarter to push their total to 26, while UNCW went into the locker room with 20 points.
The Dragons ended the third quarter, making four of their last five field goal attempts. Drexel outscored the Seahawks 18-9. Mullin added seven points to her total. The Dragons held UNCW to just 4-for-15 shooting in the third frame.
UNCW outscored the Dragons in the fourth quarter, but only by one point. The Seahawks closed the quarter on a 10-0 run and forced four turnovers in the final two minutes. Laine McGurk scored four points in the frame, converting on both of her tries. The Dragons had their shooting quarter in the final frame, going 7-for-13.

The Dragons return to the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Friday, January 19, to kick off homecoming weekend. The Dragons welcome the Hofstra Pride on Friday and then Monmouth on Sunday. Tip off against the Pride is slated for 6 p.m.
