Four Dragons Score Double-Digits to Help Defeat Hofstra, 56-38

PHILADELPHIA– The Drexel women's basketball team received double-digit performances from four separate players to begin Homecoming weekend, defeating the Hofstra Pride 56-38. The Dragons improved to 9-7 overall and a 4-1 mark in CAA play, while Hofstra fell to 7-8 overall and 2-2 in CAA play.
BY THE NUMBERS
For the second time this season, four players had double-digit performances. Chloe Hodges led the team with 14 points and Amaris Baker scored 12. Jasmine Valentine and Laine McGurk both finished the game with 11 points.
Hodges set new career marks in both rebounds (9) and steals (6). Valentine's 11 points tied a career high. Her nine rebounds is a season-high.
Drexel held Hofstra to 30 percent from the field and forced 19 turnovers. The Dragons capitalized on those mistakes by the Pride, scoring 16 points off turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel held Hofstra to just 3-for-9 in the first frame. Baker scored eight points, adding two defensive rebounds to the effort. In addition, Drexel's defense forced six turnovers in the first 10 minutes.
The second quarter ended in Drexel's favor, 11-8. Hodges and McGurk chipped in four and three points, respectively. Drexel continued forcing turnovers in the second quarter, forcing five turnovers. At the end of the first half, Drexel held a 25-16 lead.
McGurk took over in the third quarter. The freshman scored eight points on 2-for-3 shooting and earned four points on four tries at the charity stripe. The Dragons continued their defensive dominance, holding Hofstra to single digits in the quarter, yet again. Drexel also forced five more turnovers.
In the fourth quarter, Hofstra notched double-digits for the first time in the game, scoring 13. However, Drexel tacked on 15 points to close the game out. Hodges and Valentine combined for 11 of the 15 total points that Drexel scored in the fourth quarter. That Dragons did not turn the ball over once and forced three turnovers by the Pride.
